Tamiya World Cup Japan Index Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 4 - Sunday - Finals (wow!) Almost, but firstly was the 4th and final qualifier, if any improvements on the grid were to be made this was the time. I was sitting 7th so far and improved my time from a 11.94 to an 11.91 although 6th was 11.90, damn still in 7th, pole in my class (F1-Lemans) was 11.77. There was 14 hundredths between pole and me and about 3 tenths covering the top 15! Plucka ended up 8th on the grid and little Zarby and Daniel were mid 20s and 30s respectfully, unfortunately missing out on the A final for GT1, which was the biggest class by far with an A and B final and a C group. After a brunch break with a demonstration 1 hour enduro race and a Tamiya nostalgia demonstration (Countaches, Avantes and Super Champs to boot!!) the finals were started. This was it, World Championships up for grabs, talk about mega pressure. The crowds were 4 deep around the track as it was most of Sat and Sun. The racing was fast and close, some courtesy was given but not a lot!. With so many cars on the track, getting a clean run was out of the question. After a fast GT1 B final Zarby finished in about 25th place, Plucka ended up 13th in Rally. I had three reasonably good finals with a few crashes in lapped traffic, but so too did the others, and in the end I took out 4th place! I was pretty happy and surprised about that :-) Time for a big celebration tonight, there was plenty of hot and cold running food and drink and it was all good. |
